When I first started out as a coach, I knew I wanted to help people. I knew I had a great big heart and a natural ability to help people get the results they wanted, but I struggled to get clients.
Why?
When I look back now, I can see the reason so clearly. It's so obvious now, but back then I thought it was because I wasn't good enough. I thought maybe it was a sign I wasn't meant to be a coach.
At one point, I even considered giving up coaching to become a garbage man.
So, what changed for me?
How was I able to go from a clientless coach to a multi-million dollar coach?
And help tens of thousands of people in the process?
Just two shifts.
Actually, two big mindset shifts.
One mindset shift had to with my ability to coach someone and the other around my ability to grow my business.
Here's what I mean:
When you think about selling and marketing your coaching to potential clients, what's your initial gut response? Do you feel peaceful and at ease? Or is there a part of you that feels some angst or tension?
If you have some angst or uneasiness going on, you’re not alone. In fact, that's exactly how I felt when I was just starting out. But, again, I made a big shift in this area that allowed me to sign up high-end clients and grow my business, which means you can too.
Here's what I had to realize: Sales & Marketing ARE coaching.
Think about it this way…
When you see sales and marketing as part of the coaching process, you’ll feel a lot better about doing it! You’ll enjoy it more and attract more people just by not having a negative charge around it anymore. It may even put a smile on your face 🙂
PLUS, you’ll:
- Grow your business faster and easier than ever before
- Become recognized as an expert in your field
- Attract more and more high-paying clients
- Continue to expand your business and potentially hire your own team of coaches to help more people
- Make more money, so you can go on more vacations (and buy that new car you want!)
- And so much more…
#1 Here's why I believe Sales & Marketing are Coaching:
My coaching is about “ACTION”. When I coach people, I want to get them to the point where they know what they want, what their challenges are, and what to do. I want them to take action.
My sales & marketing are about action. My marketing materials are about a goal that people have (like growing their business or getting more free time, etc), the challenges they are facing and how to solve their problems to get to their goals and the action may or may not be to *buy my program* or hire me, but either way they are in a much better place now than they were before.
*************************
#2: My coaching is about helping people see new possibilities.
Ex: I talked to two coaches yesterday and helped them see that they could charge much higher fees. And instead of charging clients per session, they could charge a monthly fee and it would be better for them and for the client (new possibilities).
My sales & marketing are about helping people see new possibilities. When they read the “headlines” that have some big, fat claim or when they read testimonials of other coaches I’ve worked with that have “made it” to six figures! When people read this, they may get inspired to go for more! They may or may not get inspired to *buy my program* or hire me. But, that’s not the point.
*************************
I’ll share 1 more BIG mindset with you.
You may already believe this, but I want you to *really, really, really* believe it. I want you to feel it in your bones. So, take a deep breath in and out before reading it…
When you are working with a potential client, hiring you is the best thing the potential client can do for himself!
You may be thinking “of course”, but right now feel it in every cell.
It’s not the best thing he can do for you, it’s the best thing he can possibly do for himself/herself.
Do you see the difference? This isn't about being egotistical or forceful. It's about believing 100% that the person sitting in front of you (or on the phone with you) was brought to you by some divine guidance. That you are here to help him. Because, of all the goals and dreams that he has and all of the challenges he’s facing right now, you are the one that can support him and guide him to his reach his goals faster and easier than if he were to try to do it alone.
In fact, he's far more likely to quit if he doesn't get your help.
Hiring you is the BEST THING a potential client can do for himself!
Let's do a quick recap:
- Sales and Marketing are Coaching.
- All 3 help your clients see the possibilities and to take action
- Believe deep down that hiring you is the best thing a client can do for himself
I'd love to hear from you now.
