I’m sorry for all the coaches, consultants, strategists, teachers, gurus – that were terrible in whatever way they let you down.
The ones that didn’t show up for their calls, the ones that over-promised and under-delivered.
The ones that didn’t do what they said they would do.
On one hand if you pay for a gym membership and don’t get that amazing body you always wanted, you really can’t blame the gym. Unless they were closed half the time they said they were going to be open, had broken equipment that they didn’t replace, etc. – assuming the gym is good…
It still takes a lot of commitment on the client side to actually show up consistently and do the work – especially on the days you just don’t feel like exercising that day.
So if the coach is no good, doesn’t show up, etc. I’m very sorry for your experience.
But…
Getting big results in life isn’t as easy as hiring a coach, you also have to do a lot of work, try lots of things, fail a ton, make lots of mistakes, fail some more, pick yourself off the floor and go for it again.
There’s a reason why most people are broke, overweight, and either single or in unhappy marriages, in a job they hate, and that 90% of businesses fail. Because big results aren’t easy.
The questions I ask:
- “Are my odds of success much higher on my own or with the help of a coach?”
- “And “is the speed of my success likely much faster on my own or with the help of a coach?”
With the exception of the coaches that don’t show up for their sessions, etc. I think the answer is almost always Yes. It’s better with a coach than trying to go it alone. And guess what?
Most coaches are so terrified of letting their clients down that many of them are afraid to actually get clients. In my 18+ years of experience in the industry helping hundreds of thousands of coaches – they all really just want to help people. Very few are in it for the money.
And from all the coaches I’ve hired over the years… some are better than others, but pretty much all of them were helpful. I thank God every day for the mentors, teachers, gurus, and coaches that I’ve had the opportunity to benefit from. My marriage and family, business, health, and overall happiness wouldn’t be where they are today without them.
Did I have tough times?
Of course I did! Did I have massive failures? Yes. No coaching or training can eliminate them.
But…
Imagine erasing all of the great coaches and mentors from the planet and then think where would we be?
All I can say is Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! To all the brave souls that took the chance to put themselves out there in service to others.
